Index[label,repName]

is the internal representation of an index with a label (name) belonging to the representation referred to by repName.

Index[label,Bar[repName]]

simplifies to Bar[Index[label, repName]].

Details and Options

  • Indices of non-real representations are Bar-able, i.e. they can be conjugated. Non-real representations follow the convention that indices should always contract in pairs, where one of them is has a Bar.
  • Default representations initialized with DefineGaugeGroup or DefineGlobalGroup are named in the convention groupName[repName].

Basic Examples  (1)

The fundamental representation of an SU(3) group is complex and has a non-trivial conjugate. An index of the conjugate representation is identified with the conjugate index of the fundamental representation:
